For me soap making is exquisite alchemy.
My curiosity knows no bounds; I have always asked how and why things are done. I’m also a serial label reader. What do those things have to do with soap you ask? Everything ☺ That combination of things led me down the hippie dippy trails of vegan/vegetarianism and animal rights years ago. Those are hard habits to break, not that I want to. I want to know that the ingredients in the products I use are safe, natural and ethical. There are no unpronounceable ingredients in any of my products. All of my soap and shampoo bars are paraben and sulfate free. I started making soap and a host of other personal care products to fit my lifestyle. I chose to use essential oils over fragrance oils because fragrance oils often contain synthetic fragrances. I find synthetic fragrances hit my nose wrong harshing (yeah, that was a made up word LOL) on my mellow.

I do not use Palm Oil in any of my formulas. I chose not to due to the deforestation caused by the high demand for Palm Oil. Poor little orangutans, surely they are worth a slightly softer bar of soap! I am aware that there is ethically harvested Palm Oil available but by choosing not to formulate with it I vote no to the destruction of animal habitat. Thru careful formulation (I love the math of it!) I find that the soap I create is marginally softer without the Palm Oil but still lasts well and retains awesome lather and cleansing ability. My soap is gently scented (if scented at all) because nobody wants to be blown out of the shower with an overpowering fragrance! The goat milk I use is either locally sourced or from my herd. Spoiled goats! All of my soap is created in small 9-10 bar batches.

******A few things to note about my packaging: I practice zero waste in my household and shop so I use as little packaging/packing material as possible and do not use or include business cards, package inserts, receipts or notes.

*******A few thing things to know about handmade soap:
Use a well draining soap dish; you don’t want your soap to drown.
Allow your soap plenty of fresh air.
Use it! Don’t let it languish forgotten in a drawer.
Store your soap in a cool dry place like your linen closet or lingerie drawer. Just don’t forget about it ☺
